The European electricity sector is undergoing a fundamental transformation, with large, centralized power plants being replaced by numerous decentralized renewable units and storage facilities. This change places new demands on the secure operation of the Swiss transmission grid. Support the Market & Product Design team in a 6-to-12-month internship in the development of new, innovative solutions.

Participate in the power supply in Switzerland
With this internship, you will be right in the middle of the development of new market mechanisms and products to ensure the safe and stable operation of the Swiss and European power grid. You will take on the following tasks:
- Monitor ancillary service market developments through data collection and analysis
- Design and evaluate strategies for integrating different technologies into ancillary service markets
- Develop simulation capabilities to assess future market dynamics, system costs, and the value of flexibility resources
This is how you make the difference
For this exciting position, we are looking for you as a team player with high motivation, a solution-oriented approach and an independent, analytical way of working. You have creativity, recognize connections and can formulate proposed solutions. In addition, you will bring the following with you:
- Ongoing or completed studies in energy systems, electrical engineering, applied mathematics or related fields
- Strong programming and data analysis skills (preferably in Python, including experience with data visualization and optimization libraries)
- Knowledge of mathematical optimization and operations research methods for market modelling
- Interest in electricity markets, flexibility resources, and ancillary services (knowledge of the Swiss context is an advantage)
- Very good knowledge of English; German or French beneficial

The Market & Product Design team develops solutions, from the idea to implementation, for Swissgrid's ancillary services. When it comes to frequency control, we want to ensure market based, non-discriminatory and efficient processes. In doing so, we cooperate closely with foreign transmission system operators and Swiss industry partners. In addition, we develop concepts and products to tap into and integrate decentralized flexibility.
