Help keep Switzerland supplied with electricity

Without voltage, no electricity can flow through the transmission grid. Ensuring effective voltage control is therefore one of Swissgrid’s core responsibilities. This starts with grid development, so that expansions such as new overhead lines and cables do not cause voltage issues. In system operations, Swissgrid works with power plant operators and distribution system operators to secure the resources required for voltage control.
In this role, you will be responsible for the further development of voltage control and for identifying and implementing measures to ensure secure and stable system operations. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Taking an end-to-end view spanning grid development, system operations and settlement
  • Further developing the voltage control concept for the transmission grid, taking stakeholder interests and the regulatory framework into account
  • Coordinating and aligning topics relating to voltage control and grid development
  • Providing expertise to projects and stakeholders, and assuming technical ownership of internal and external assignments and studies
  • Identifying and analysing relevant developments and trends, and deriving their implications and the actions required for Swissgrid
  • Representing Swissgrid’s interests in dealings with industry experts, authorities and other relevant stakeholders

What you bring to the role

For this position, we are looking for a collaborative professional with a reliable, structured and quality-focused approach, and the ability to help shape Switzerland’s transmission grid and orchestrate change. You will bring:

  • A university or university of applied sciences degree, and potentially a doctorate, in electrical engineering or a related field
  • At least five years of professional experience in the energy supply sector or industry in a specialist, technical or coordination role
  • Sound knowledge of electrical power systems and experience in voltage control, grid planning or system operations
  • Experience taking responsibility for a specialist area, combined with strong analytical and conceptual skills
  • Experience in technical coordination or project management is an advantage
  • The ability to share knowledge and experience, present persuasive arguments to management and external partners, and build consensus
  • Excellent German skills and good English skills are required. French skills are a strong advantage.

What we offer

We offer varied and exciting responsibilities in a company that is unique in Switzerland, along with a modern working environment in the immediate vicinity of Aarau railway station. You will also benefit from:

  • Flexible working hours (42 hours per week), including opportunities to work from home
  • 25 to 30 working days of annual leave, plus company holidays between Christmas and New Year
  • Progressive social benefits and an attractive pension fund
  • Opportunities for professional development
  • Financial support and/or time allowance for internal or external continuing education
  • A competitive salary and recognition of strong performance
