Senior Grid Studies Engineer (80-100%) - 1644 

Help keep Switzerland’s lights on

In this varied and demanding position, you are responsible for creating models and conducting studies for the long-term development of the transmission system, with a particular focus on voltage control, system stability and integrating new technologies. Your tasks include:

• Modeling the various components of the electrical power system for dynamic analyses, including conventional and power electronics-based equipment
• Maintaining and extending the network models used for planning and stability studies
• Conducting grid studies (load flow, short-circuit calculations, RMS and EMT simulations), with a focus on voltage and dynamic stability of the system
• Defining and verifying technical requirements to be met by grid connection applicants in the areas of system stability, voltage support and power quality
• Analysis of the dynamic behaviour of the power system and assessment of the impact of new grid-connected installations and technologies
• Participating in projects with grid operators, power generators and national and international partners
• Managing and reviewing verification of studies carried out by external partners
• Developing tools and automation scripts for conducting stability studies
• Representing Swissgrid in national and international working groups in your area of specialization

This is how you make a difference

We are looking for an independent and organised person with strong analytical and presentation skills. In addition, you have the following profile:

• Master's degree in electrical engineering, with a specialization in electrical networks, or equivalent education
• In depth knowledge of methods and equipment for maintaining static and dynamic voltage stability
• Excellent knowledge of power system calculations (load flow, short-circuit calculations, dynamic analyses) and voltage maintenance
• Knowledge of the electricity market and market models
• Experience using power simulation tools such as PSS/E, Neplan and EMTP
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in the field of grid studies within the energy sector
• Scripting skills, for example with Python and MATLAB
• Very good command of either German or French, together with a good command of English

About us

The Grid Development and Studies team (eight people) is responsible for grid development studies. We work with Swiss distribution system operators, power plant operators and other transmission system operators. We are responsible for model management and grid analyses for long-term planning. As part of this work, we assess applications for connection to the transmission grid and conduct the studies required to analyse the system’s stability and dynamic behaviour in connection with planned projects.
